Melbourne Ska Orchestra – New single SATELLITE out now!

New album ‘Sierra Kilo Alpha’ – to be released in February 2016

The mighty MELBOURNE SKA ORCHESTRA will release their second album ‘Sierra-Kilo-Alpha’ in February 2016 and have given us a first taste with their new single ‘Satellite’ – out now.

‘Satellite’ is a sonic joyride of dynamic horns, crystal vocals, classic driving Ska rhythm and an infectious hook. A nod to the bands Ska roots, the Orchestra captures the dynamic spirit of the genre while presenting a unique and exciting edge to the style. ‘Satellite’ is an intergalactic killer!

Inimitable bandleader Nicky Bomba states, “ ‘Riding on a Satellite’ is a metaphor for flying high when the balance is right, a little like ‘Walking on Sunshine’ with a cosmic twist! The song encourages individuality and integrity in a world of cheap shots and fake promises, referencing the devaluation of music in this technological age, where everything is free and immediately accessible. ‘Satellite’ champions a new energy to reset the balance, where our creative genius can really shine, not just in a musical setting but in a global, human-conscious sense. More than ever we are experiencing an uprising against exploitation, corruption and the lack of common sense. As caretakers of the planet, we are blessed with intelligence and insight yet are often compromised by the addiction to power and the mighty dollar. The film clip portrays the orchestra observing humanity from space. As Ska-Cadets, literally flying by the seat of our pants, we believe in the strength of a unified focused force where positive energy reigns supreme!”

The band’s debut self-titled album was released internationally in 2013 and resulted in sell-out national shows, multiple major festival appearances, three international tours including Glastonbury, Montreal Jazz Festival, Sierra Nevada, club shows in LA and New York, a sell-out show in London and many more.

Add to this appearances on national TV including ROCKWIZ, three ARIA nominations, BEST GLOBAL OR REGGAE ACT Award (THE AGE: EG), BEST SKA/REGGAE ALBUM Award (READY STEADY SKA-UK) and soundtrack for an award winning British film, ‘BEVERLEY’, it’s safe to say that this Skatastic Juggernaut has earned its Space Stripes.

The Melbourne Ska Orchestra’s live performance is nothing short of spectacular, sometimes tipping the 30 player mark and with the approval of Reggae and Ska pioneers like Stranger Cole, Owen Gray, Carlos Malcolm, Ranking Roger and Neville Staples to name a few, they are resonating with audiences worldwide, young and old.
